Transfer or Release a Tag
How to unlink a tag from your pet or transfer it to someone else.
There are times when you need to remove a tag from your account - rehoming a pet, replacing a damaged tag, or giving a tag to someone else.
Releasing a tag
Releasing a tag unlinks it from your pet and removes it from your account. The tag can then be registered by anyone.
- Open the FoundYa app and go to the Tags tab
- Select the tag you want to release
- Tap Release Tag
- Confirm the action
Releasing a tag is permanent. The tag will stop showing your pet's profile immediately. If the tag is password-protected, credentials will be reset.
When to release
- Rehoming a pet - release the tag so the new owner can register it under their own account
- Replacing a tag - release the old one, then register the new tag
- Recycling a tag - if you want to use the same NFC chip for a different pet, release it first
Transferring to someone else
FoundYa doesn't have a direct "transfer" feature. Instead:
- Release the tag from your account
- Share the physical tag with the new owner
- They register it under their own FoundYa account
This ensures the new owner has full control over the tag and its linked profile.
Next steps
- Register an NFC Tag to set up a new or re-used tag
- Manage Your Household if multiple people need access to the same pet's profile
