Report a Found Pet
Found a pet with a FoundYa tag? Here's how to help get them home.
If you've found a pet - with or without a FoundYa tag - you can report it through the platform to help reunite them with their owner.
If the pet has an NFC tag
The fastest way to help is to tap the tag with your phone. This instantly:
- Shows you the pet's profile with their photo and name
- Lets you message the owner directly - no app download required
- Sends the owner a scan alert with your approximate location
You don't need a FoundYa account to tap a tag and contact the owner.
If you have a FoundYa account
You can also report a found pet through the app:
- Go to the Community tab
- Tap Report Found Pet
- Add a photo, description, and the location where you found the pet
- Submit the report
This creates a found pet notice visible to nearby FoundYa users and helps match the pet to any active lost mode reports in the area.
Reporting a found pet is anonymous. Your personal details are not shared with the pet's owner unless you choose to message them directly.
Tips for helping a found pet
- Stay calm - a lost pet may be scared. Approach slowly and speak softly.
- Check for tags - look for a collar, NFC tag, or QR code. Tap any smart tag with your phone.
- Keep the pet safe - if possible, keep them in a secure area while you try to contact the owner.
- Contact local vets and shelters - they can check for a microchip.
